The Psyllium husk is the outer coating of mucilage that surrounds the seed. It is regarded as pure dietary fiber and is the only part of the plant used in producing Psyllium-based products. Its nutritional profile primarily includes glycosides, proteins, polysaccharides, vitamin B1, and choline. It contains over 80% fiber, which is significantly higher than oat bran (less than 15%) and wheat bran (around 10%). The husk is mostly made up of hemicellulose, a complex carbohydrate present in whole grains, fruits, and vegetables. While hemicellulose cannot be fully digested, it is partially broken down in the colon, serving as nourishment for beneficial gut bacteria.
